This Spiritual Law requires that you surrender to the circumstances of your life as they are.
Ultimately, this is the “telling myself the truth” law. This is the way it is, now what? When you are able to surrender to what is, then you open yourself up to tons of possibilities that will change the experience you are having with you life.
Surrendering is very different than giving up.
When you “give up,” you feel victimized, but when you surrender you become empowered to take different actions than you have in the past. When you “give up,” you feel drained and empty, but when you surrender you are filled with inspiration and become open to a wider view of yourself and the world around you.
When you resist what is, whatever you’re resisting consumes your attention and it becomes very difficult to be in the flow of your life. Surrendering opens us up to a greater reality than what we previously thought possible.
Dan Millman talks about The Law of Surrender
In the first half of this video, Millman effectively teaches this law using some common circumstances we might find ourselves in. The Law of Surrender gives us new ways to be in the world. Millman also teaches an important concept that I work with in my coaching work:
“Emotions are the weather patterns of the body. “
During the second half of the video, Millman shares a simple way to stay in the present moment.

What a gift this law of surrender. For many years it seems like there was something more to life, something deeper, hidden, a cover up to life so to speak. I have searched and when ever an opportunity arose to take a real look at what this might be I again ran for cover. This was a spiritual search, a search for the meaning of soul, why was I here on this plane? The answers seemed to big, too outlandish and yet when I surrendered to this life, it began to flow a little more fluidly.
Divine Purpose, that was the answer, we all are living our Divine Purpose no matter how hard we try to hide or act little. Admittedly I do not always remember to surrender to this but I have to admit when I realized what a responsibility this was, my heart opened. I want to be part of the solution, part of the healing of the planet, part of the love.
I remember hearing the word surrender the first time I stepped into an AL-Anon meeting. I disliked the word “surrender,” having no real idea what it meant it sounded more like give in or give up. Surrender sounded powerless, helpless, no hope. It wasn’t until I began learning about self love and learning of the loving Creator that surrender began to mean something different. There are times when I still find myself questioning surrender, it comes from pain and fear. It helps to remember to slow down, walk through the fear, feel the pain and move on.
